Toyota Supra-Does it live up to the Expectations?

The new Toyota Supra has cased quite the uproar in the automotive industry. Car lovers have always seemed to cherish the older models of this car, with the infamous 2JZ engine. Enthusiasts and fan boys of the Surpra would mod those engines to hell, resulting is 800+ HP coupes that could take off and leave you past in the gas. People loved the simplicity of working on the cars and the historical aura that came with the cars. After a hiatus, of course these car lovers were electrified to catch wind of Toyotas’ engineers cooking something up. The result? A futuristic looking 335 Hp/365 ft torque , 3.0L turbocharged inline 6 engine. Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a pretty slick car; 0-60 4.1 seconds, 155 mph top speed. Honestly for the price it’s really pretty reasonable as far as performance goes. The car ranges from around 50-60 thousand and is available across the country.

Complaints

The car has mixed reviews but many Supra lovers seem to find something wrong with it. Perhaps the most upsetting factor is the BMW engine Toyota implemented in the Supra. It will not be as easy to work on or mod and this has upset many fan boys. Another complaint is this car is competing with the new Corvette Mid engine. People say for the price they would rather have the Corvette. Fair enough, but when you consider dealer mark-ups you will likely be in another price range than the Supra. Bottom line, the Supra just isn’t the same as it used to be. This is to be expected, as we have advanced technologically and nothing can stay stagnant, with that said fan boys think the originality was lost in the factory sauce.

What do you think? Do you take it for what it is and love it? Do you despise Toyota for using a BMW engine and tweaking this car too much? Comment below.
